Here in the fifteenth century between Umbria and Tuscany, modern painting was born; this territory is the pictorial cradle of Perugino and Pinturicchio, Raphael’s masters. In less than half an hour’s drive from Castel Brio you can admire: the S. Sebastiano (1505) in Panicale which depicts a Madonna by the very young Raphael, numerous frescoes and oils on panels in Città della Pieve, the birthplace of Perugino ( 1446): the Adoration of the Magi (1504) almost 50 m2 frescoed in the Oratory of S. Maria dei Banchi, San Antonio Abate at S. Peter (1508), the Baptism of Christ (1510) and the Madonna in Glory (1514) in the cathedral of S. Gervaso and Protasio and finally the Deposition of the Cross (1517) in S. Maria dei Servi, discovered only in the late nineteenth century.

The tour continues in Perugia with the treasures of Perugino and Pinturicchio in the National Gallery of Umbria and the great cycle of the Collegio del Cambio (1496-1500); in the village of Corciano the Altarpiece of the Assumption (1513) stands in the church of S. Maria and, to conclude, the famous Baglioni Chapel (1499-1501) in Spello, filled with numerous frescoes by Pinturicchio.
