Country Resort at Castiglione del lago

History

In 1906 Castel Brio was a farm producing cereals, later a Conifer Nursery took It over and today this cultivation is still a characteristic of the Ferretto territory. In 1972 Castel Brio was awarded a No 1. Country Resort Licence in Umbria and began breeding the rare White Fallow Deer.

Hospitality

In 2004 conventional restoration enhanced the ancient building and services were added to the rooms, suites and apartments, equipping them with air conditioning, private gardens and internet connection.

Nature and Sport

The 2500 hectares of woodland in Ferretto have become an environmental site of European importance. Surrounded by nature visitors can take botanical walks, swim in the pool sheltered by oak trees and engage in sports such as cycling, sailing, canoeing on Lake Trasimeno, fishing in the private lake or hunting for truffles and mushrooms with a truffle hunter guided by trained dogs.

Art and Culture

Castel Brio lies between Tuscany and Umbria, where the Etruscan civilization flourished and frescoed necropolises still remain. Medieval villages and fortresses such as Castiglione del Lago, Cortona, Montepulciano, Città della Pieve and Panicale are nearby. Here six centuries ago the arts of Humanism blossomed producing valuable architecture, frescoes and paintings.

The Shop

Castel Brio is situated in an area renowned for food and wine. Products range from Extra Vergin Olive Oil, Pecorino cheeses, saffron, truffles, sparkling white and red wines to lentils. Lastly, the outstanding Chianina T-bone meat considered to offer the best steak in Italy should not be forgotten. Our shop will provide further details.

How to reach us:

By car from North Italy: Motorway of ‘The Sun’ A1 Milan-Naples, Bettolle-Sinalunga exit, continue along the Siena-Perugia SS 715 Highway towards Perugia, Pietraia exit, direction Ferretto 2.5 km away, in Ferretto turn right onto Strada Comunale dei Pieracci, Castel Brio is 400 m on the left, at nr. 14.

By car from South Italy: Siena-Perugia SS 715 Highway, Castiglione del Lago exit. Continue towards Castiglione del Lago, after 1 km turn right towards Ferretto, railway underpass, follow the road for about 2 km, in Ferretto turn left onto Strada Comunale dei Pieracci, Castel Brio is 400 m on the left, at nr. 14.

By train: Rome-Milan line. Several national Intercity trains stop at Terontola station (Tuscany, Cortona) only 4 km from Castel Brio and a private driver from Castel Brio will take you to Ferretto.

By plane: Intercontinental flights from Rome Fiumicino 1hour 40 mins. away, European flights from Rome, Perugia (0:50), Florence (1:15); on request our express driver service is available and will take you from the airports to Castel Brio.
