Cashmere

Cashmere in Umbria is a foremost product of the district and came to national prominence at the end of the 20th century and had, however, roots in the past linked to the art of weaving and tanning Umbrian leather in the late Medieval period. Regarding Cashmere, Angora wool experimented by the Perugian entrepreneur Luisa Spagnoli (1877-1935) is the most recent example. The first knitwear was obtained from breeding Turkish angora rabbits imported in 1907 from South America. Angora Spagnoli only took off in the 1930s, moving from an artisanal activity to industrial production. Nowadays hundreds of small companies have been set up near Lake Trasimeno, especially in the Magione area only 15 minute’ s drive from Castel Brio.

he tour begins with luxury Cashmere, by the stylist Brunello Cucinelli. Men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, a sports line and the new country home line can be purchased in the beautiful boutique near the parent company of this charismatic Umbrian designer in the village of Solomeo. The picturesque village of Solomeo stands on the hill between cypress trees and ancient walls, very tastefully restored by the same stylist and inspired by the landscape backdrops of Perugino’s paintings. Solomeo can be freely visited. Cashmere by Lamberto Losani (1940) in Magione is another historic Umbrian brand producing a men’s-women’s-children’s line and can be purchased at favorable prices in its outlet. Lastly, we would like to point out the Fioroni Cashmere Outlet in Pucciarelli di Magione who sell sample items for men only.
